Carbon+capture+%26+storage

DNV believes that carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a strategically important technology for upholding sustainable growth whilst reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

A promising means to reduce emissions

CCS has been highlighted as one of the key technologies that can facilitate a transition to a more carbon neutral world. IEA analysis suggests that without CCS, overall costs to reduce emissions to 2005 levels by 2050 could increase by 70% (IEA, 2009. - Report can be downloaded here).

However, for CCS to play a significant role in combating climate change, a significant number of commercial scale projects must be initiated around the world within the coming years.

To boost the deployment of CCS in a safe and sustainable way, there is a need for unified, recognized and publicly available guidelines that provide the standards that can speed up innovation.

Services

DNV delivers services within all parts of the CCS value chain, addressing the whole range of risks associated with CCS.

Guidelines and recommended practices speed up innovation

DNV’s core philosophy is that technology development and knowledge sharing increase innovation and safety. So when industry is facing challenges, the best way of solving these is for industry players to join forces through joint industry projects (JIPs). In this way we, as an industry, develop the world’s best practices and standards. All of DNV’s guidelines and recommended practices for CCS have been developed through JIPs and are freely available from this website.

[English]

Rotterdam voorop bij CCS

In Rotterdam loopt momenteel een onderzoek om de mogelijkheden te onderzoeken om een CO2 distributie hub functie te ontwikkelen. [English]
